Kanya Pujan: Divine concluding ceremony of Navratri
Goddess Durga is the divya-shakti, which can be a bounty of love and care as well as the source of destruction too. She symbolises the power of divine mother as even the Gods pay homage to her strength. Adoring Ma durga during nine days by keeping fasts and worshipping her is the perfect way to realize our upmost goal and motive of existence, which gets blur in the magical world of materialism.
Kanya Pujan marks the ending ceremony of the auspicious Navratri and is conducted on Ashtami or Navami day of Navratri. It is also known as ‘Kumari puja’, a ritual of worshipping young girls symbolising Goddess Durga. Homage is paid to nine small girls and one boy through this ritual. Special food is prepared according to the varied rituals among family, which is offered to the nine girls in the form of nine devis. Certain dakshina or new utensils are also offered to them. Then the prasadam is consumed by the family to break their fast and mark the completion of auspicious navratri.
Devotees should read the last chapter of Durga Saptashati and chant mantras to welcome the kids. The ceremony should begin by washing their feet and then tying ‘mauli’ (red thread) on their wrists. Special puri, halwa and chana are offered to them along with fruits. People should touch their feet and seek blessings from them by pleasing these young kids.
Worshipping the kanyas helps the devotees to receive wisdom, moksha, strength, wealth and dharma. Mantra for kanya pujan is as follows:

Beginning of Festive Season: Dhanteras
The festive season of 5 days for Hindus comes with happiness and surprises every year. This is the perfect time of celebrations and receiving the positive energies from the Universe. This festive period begins with ‘Dhanteras’, which is celebrated on the 13th lunar day of the Krishna paksha of the month of Kartik, according to the Hindu calendar.
Dhanteras is also known as Dhanvantari Trayodashi as it is dedicated to Lord Dhanvantari or Father of Ayurveda. It is believed that during the Samundra manthan when a huge battle was going on for the divine nectar or ‘amrit’; He emerged carrying a pot of elixir. Thus from this day the festival of Dhanteras was named after the divine doctor.
Story of Yama Deepam:
On the day of Dhanteras the female members of the house are observed lighting a ghee lamp outside their home, during evening. The reason for this ritual traces back to the tale of 16 year old Prince (son of King Hima). It was forecasted that the prince will die on the fourth day of his wedding, due to which the King tried to abstain his son from girls.
Still the prince decided to marry one day and told his wife about the prediction. His wife dedicatedly planned to save his husband from the death. She laid out all her ornaments and created heaps of gold and silver coins at the entrance of the sleeping chamber and lit lamps all over the place. She also sang the beautiful hymns all night to keep the prince awake. As the Lord Yama arrived, disguised as a serpent, his eyes were blinded by the bright dazzle of gold. When he tried to enter after climbing the heap he was mesmerized by the hymns and went away. This plan saved his husband from the danger and from then on the ladies begin to light lamps to glorify Lord Yama (God of death).
Thus this is the day to appease Goddess Lakshmi and Lord Kuber by performing their puja and receiving heaps of blessings in return. This day is also marked by the purchase of valuable ornaments, gold, silver and utensils which are also kept during the puja.

Ray of Hope: Shankh or Conch
The beginning of propitious celebration is incomplete without the soothing tune of the conch or shankh. The trumpet sounds so peaceful to the ears and is purely a sign of brilliant and auspicious beginning. In Indian mythology, God Vishnu, the God of Preservation, is shown with a shankh in one hand and a chakra in the other. The shankh symbolizes positivity over negativity and it is blown as a ray of hope. During puja, shankh is also used as a container of holy water.
- Shankh is considered as one of the most auspicious objects that emerged from the sea during the Sagara Samudra Manthan.
- Whenever conch shell is blown, it is said to eliminate the evil effects and purify the environment.
- The natural vibration or cosmic energy of the Earth gets magnified on entering the conch shell, which can be heard as the gentle humming sound of ocean.
- When the conch is blown, the sound emanated from it is a symbol of creation, as it contains the five elements of nature

Rules of Vastu for House Planning

- The stairs should not be made in north-east or brahmasthan, preferred location is in west, south-west or south.
- Have lofts and attics in the south and west side of the rooms.
- Puja room should be in the north eastern corner or it can also be inside the study room or dining room in the north-east corner.
- Rainwater or drainage should have an outlet in north, east or north-east side.
- Elderly people are more comfortable in the south-west corner of the house.
- The number of doors and windows should be more on the ground floor and less on the upper floors.
- Allow plenty of natural light and fresh air within the house, as dark houses collects a lot of negativity.
- There are certain dates when neither muhuratha nor auspicious time is required, so you can begin your construction or move into your house on Akshaya Tritiya, Phulera Duj, Vijaya Dashmi and Vaisakhi.

The Bright Colour of Wisdom: Yellow and Lord Vishnu

Along with the positive side of this beautiful colour it is also associated with cowardice, betrayal, egoism, and madness. Further it is the colour of caution and physical illness (jaundice and malaria). Though most of the nation connotes positive values to this colour, yet Yellow is reserved for ‘Mourning’ in Egypt and Judas wore a Yellow coat when he betrayed Jesus in the Christian tradition.
Holding varied opinion for different individuals, yellow is the bright colour of life signifying happiness. Yellow is mostly worn by people to attract their beloved mate and is usually worn on Thursday to adore Lord Vishnu and receive wealth, success, fame, and happiness as His blessings.

Goddess Saraswati: Swan and Peacock
Goddess Saraswati is the store house of knowledge and wisdom, and the lover of art and music. Lord Brahma, the divine consort of Goddess Saraswati, creates the beautiful Universe and Sarsawati ji completes the process by showering the knowledge required for comprehending the creation.

Garuda, the eagle god is also the Vahana of Lord Vishnu that is well known for its speed and mighty wings. At one instance, Garuda wanted a place even higher than Lord Vishnu but as he got acquainted of the powers of Lord Vishnu, he became his faithful devotee by surrendering himself as his vehicle. It symbolise the numerous flying thoughts of mortals and the way they are controlled by the Almighty.
Lord Shiva: Nandi bull
Lord Shiva is the embodiment of creating as well as destroying. He is worshipped for his supreme powers and signifies the union of duality with Goddess Shakti. The vehicle of lord Shiva, Nandi bull symbolise the brutal and aggressive attitude of humans. By mounting on the top of the bull, lord Shiva tames the evil energies and also controls the sexual impulses. Shiva controls the negative impulses by riding on its back and teaches the important lesson to mankind.
Goddess Durga: Lion

Lord Brahma: Seven swans

Goddess Lakshmi: Owl
The Goddess of prosperity and wealth is the consort of Sri Mahavishnu and is highly revered by the Hindu devotees. The vehicle of goddess Lakshmi, an owl or ‘uluka’ is often a negative connotation; therefore it is considered to be associated with Alakshmi (Goddess of inauspiciousness). Lord Indra: Airavata
The most powerful and excellent warrior, known as the King of Devas and also the God of War and Weather. The term Indra is derived from a Sanskrit word ‘Ind’ meaning to be powerful and the one who defeats his enemy. He is even renowned for his arrogant traits, yet he is the chief deity in Rig Veda. To maintain dharma in all three lokas and fight against evil powers, Lord Indra is the heroic protagonist. The four tusked, white elephant is the vahana of this deity, which is said to have emerged during Samudra manthan. The mighty elephant is renowned for protecting the gates of paradise as well as other miracles. It is said that Airavata gathered water from the large lakes of Udaygiri Mountains and showers it in the direction of lord Indra; thus holding the ability of giving rise to clouds or pouring rain. The pious and spotless white creature is a symbol of purity and is known to be created during the beginning of life by Lord Brahma.
Lord Vayu: Thousands of horse
The great personification of wind, Lord Vayu is known as the initial partaker of soma juice. He is a dear friend of lord Indra and given equal respect and weightage. He is as swift as mind and also called as the God of Thoughts. He is one of the major elements of the five elements of the Universe and is also described as ‘Satata-ga’ (ever moving), ‘Pavana’ (wind), and ‘Gandha-vaha’ (the perfume bearer). He is the guardian of North West direction and the father of Lord Hanuman and Bheema. Vayu devta is often shown riding forty nine or thousand horses that helps to cover long distances swiftly within few seconds. Horse is known for its swift and mighty powers and is often symbolised as notorious and fast mind that flies from one thought to another in just few seconds. By climbing upon these horses, Lord Vayu tames the swift thoughts and brings stability and calmness in our mind. The white coloured horses that cover all the three lokas of the world are a symbol of victory over our evil and negative thoughts.
